6 YA Books with Elemental Magic You Should Be Reading

6 YA Books with Elemental Magic You Should Be Reading YA books with elemental magic are my drug of choice. I mean, obviously.  What’s better than a story about different kingdoms and worlds where magic users wield water, throw fire, summon wind, and make the earth rise up to do their bidding? Not much. Below, I’ve compiled 6 YA books with elemental magic that you should be reading. I focused on high fantasy books that I’ve read myself so that I can give authentic recommendations for these series. Duel of Fire (Book #1 in the Steel & Fire series) by Jordan Rivet Truthwitch (Book #1 in the Witchlands series) by Susan Dennard Air and Ash (Book #1 in the Tides series) by Alex Lidell Throne of Glass (Book #1 in the Throne of Glass series) by Sarah J. The Little Mermaid Retelling Collection: Cover Reveal for Kingdom of Salt & Sirens

Hello, my loves! I had a blast closing out 2018 by participating in my first box set, Kingdom of Glass & Ashes: A Limited Edition Collection of Cinderella Retellings. A letter on Through Fathoms Dark and Deep Release Day

On Through Fathoms Dark and Deep release day, a letter to the newest Lady Pirates book It’s Through Fathoms Dark and Deep release day and you know what that means! Time for a letter to my newest book that’s out in the world. Dear Fathoms, I think you’re the fastest I’ve ever written a book. Not just drafted, but drafted, drafted again, and revised it. And that’s in part because your–Grace’s–voice was so strong for me. Her thoughts rang out clear as a bell and her story just begged to continue on. Fathoms, you focused on a different aspect of the story of the Lady Pirates series and I think you helped Grace grow majorly as a character. I also want to thank you for coming through so clearly for the readers, who have been eager for their next installment. I didn’t want […]

Alliances Audiobook by S. Usher Evans (Razia #2) Release

Alliances audiobook by S. Usher Evans (Razia #2) Today, the Alliances audiobook by S. Usher Evans is officially on sale! The Alliances audiobook joins the previous book in the Razia series, Double Life, on Audible. Surprise! This is one of my narration projects. Yes, I’ve moonlighted as an audiobook producer for some time now! That’s something you may not know about me, dear readers! The Alliances audiobook is the last audiobook that I have on my docket for the time being. I also narrated S. Usher Evans’s Double Life audiobook (Razia #1) a while back. So I can truly say that narrating the adventures of female space pirate Lyssandra Peate (alias Razia) have been some of my favorite projects to date. Not only do they cater to my predisposition of loving on some lady pirates, but Evans wrote layered, snappy, and fun […]

Perfect Writing Schedule

Perfect Writing Schedule

The perfect writing schedule does not exist. Oh, I’ve dreamt of it. I’ve thought: If I could just find this mythological creature, the perfect writing schedule would unlock my career! It would bring me untold success! It doesn’t work that way. At least… not for me. See, the idea of a perfect writing schedule is one that I think many writers dream about. If you’re self-published, it may mean you can consistently and quickly produce books—a powerful strategy that can’t be undervalued in today’s market. If you’re a writer pursuing other goals, the perfect writing schedule has other benefits. Practice makes perfect, after all. And rare is the writer who can somehow obtain an agent without a finished novel in hand. Lofty goals like NaNoWriMo—writing 1,667 words per day and having a finished novel at the end—that can feel like […]

Mid-Year 2018 Goal Update

Back at the beginning of the year, I published a post about my 2018 goals. It’s hard to believe we’re more than halfway done with the year! Almost 3/4 of the way through, in fact! So, I wanted to provide you all with a mid-year 2018 goal update. Mid-Year 2018 Goal Update: General Goals Visit 2 new places Mid-year 2018 goal update: Success! This was a goal that I purposefully left open to interpretation so I visited 1 new city and 1 new state. Back in April, I made it out to Phoenix, Arizona (which was actually a whole new state for me. I did some hiking and enjoyed the sights the city had to offer like their gorgeous Desert Botanical Garden. I also made it out to Madison, Wisconsin for a visit with my best friend! I’ve been to […]

Introducing: Something Written This Way Comes Podcast

Something Written This Way Comes Podcast You may know Alex Brown as one of the co-creators and showrunners for the fantastic audio drama, The Bridge. But I’ve known Alex for a few years before she and Rebecca Mahoney created those characters and that world. We’ve been critique partners and friends for quite some time now. So, I thought there was no one better than Alex to host a writing podcast with me. Therefore, I’m introducing the Something Written This Way Comes podcast! The Something Written This Way Comes podcast will serve a purpose partially of an accountability tool for Alex and myself. With new episodes every other Tuesday, we’ll report our writing progress and any writing revelations we’ve had recently as well as other topics. Essentially, the Something Written This Way Comes podcast will be a conversation between the two of us […]
