Cover reveal sign-ups and official release date for RIOT OF STORM AND SMOKE

Cover reveal sign-ups and official release date for RIOT OF STORM AND SMOKE

GUYS. I am so very, very, very excited. Because finally, at long last, I’m at a point with Riot of Storm and Smoke that I feel comfortable setting a publication date. It has been far too long since I published Threats of Sky and Sea, and I’m sure you’re all wondering what in the hell happened to Bree and her friends, right? ^_~ Well, the wait isn’t too much longer, because… Riot of Storm and Smoke will be published August 18, 2015! (But you can add it on Goodreads now) Why did it take so long to announce an official release date? The truth is that I’m a slow writer… it takes me a loooong time to even find the story in all of my pantsing-style drafting. But we’re there now, and this is for real. I’ve reserved a slot with my […]

A moment of writing inspiration– courtesy of The Sims 4

A moment of writing inspiration– courtesy of The Sims 4

I go through spurts where I play The Sims a LOT. I finally bought The Sims 4, so lately, I’ve been in the midst of one of these spurts. Meet Jane. She’s a writer. Now, Jane’s career started off slowly. She worked a Day Job as a Writer’s Assistant. She wrote a little bit, and self-published a couple of children’s books. She read a lot to advance in her career; it was her daily task. And then Jane got two promotions. To advance in her new position, her daily task was to write– EVERY DAY. To go to work in an INSPIRED mood. It was a new task set for me. Every morning, when Jane gets up, I have her eat breakfast and take a “thoughtful” shower so that she’ll be inspired. And then, with whatever time is left before […]

My first school visit

My first school visit

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a high school book club, where the club read Threats of Sky and Sea this month. Equal parts nervous and elated, I left Day Job early and pulled up to a place that I don’t think I’ve been to since 2006– when I graduated from there. This was my first school visit and I tried to disregard the surrealism of the situation– along with the urge to cry out that “I DON’T EVEN GO HERE.” Not someone who is innately comfortable with attention, I was pretty dang nervous, but the informal setting quickly helped me relax. I’d estimate that about 20 students attended. We pulled together chairs in a loose circle around a table, and let the questions fly.   The school visit was off, and moving fast. A lot of questions that […]

Defining Justice prequel short: announcement and cover reveal

Defining Justice prequel short: announcement and cover reveal

Heyyyy youuuu guyssss! You may remember that my Prince Caden short story, Defining Justice, was published about a year ago in Inaccurate Realities Issue #3: Magic. I’m so pleased to have been included in such a wonderful collection (seriously, the other stories are A+. I definitely recommend checking it out). But I’m equally pleased to announce that Defining Justice will soon be available on its own! With the story expanded slightly, Defining Justice will be coming to you in e-book form on May 4, 2015, and you can find the short blurb right here! One of Prince Caden’s earliest explanations of justice came from his father. But with an Earth Elemental’s life on the line, Caden learns to define it for himself. You can add Defining Justice on Goodreads here. And… check out the cover below! This cover is special to me […]

Alternate Titles Game

Alternate Titles Game

Hello, hello, my friends! First, a quick reminder that the giveaway for an Audible copy of Threats of Sky and Sea ends soon! Second, I’m here to play the alternate titles game today! Basically, this is a game in which I scroll through my manuscript eight times, stop randomly and choose a line from where I’ve stopped to be an “alternate title.” I played with both Threats of Sky and Sea, which is obviously complete, and Riot of Storm and Smoke, which is obviously not and while some were ridiculous, a couple actually had potential! I know what to do if I’m ever stuck for a title on future projects ^_~ Threats of Sky and Sea My Heart is Dancing a Jig Whispers of Lies How They Found Me Better Alive Than Dead Vain About His Fingernails Shift the Kindling […]
