Defining Justice prequel short: announcement and cover reveal

Posted March 6, 2015 by Jennifer Ellision in blog, Books, Threats of Sky and Sea / 0 Comments

Heyyyy youuuu guyssss!

You may remember that my Prince Caden short story, Defining Justicewas published about a year ago in Inaccurate Realities Issue #3: Magic. I’m so pleased to have been included in such a wonderful collection (seriously, the other stories are A+. I definitely recommend checking it out).

But I’m equally pleased to announce that Defining Justice will soon be available on its own! With the story expanded slightly, Defining Justice will be coming to you in e-book form on May 4, 2015, and you can find the short blurb right here!

One of Prince Caden’s earliest explanations of justice came from his father. But with an Earth Elemental’s life on the line, Caden learns to define it for himself.

You can add Defining Justice on Goodreads here.

And… check out the cover below!

DEFINING (1)This cover is special to me for a couple of reasons:

1) It’s the first cover that I created myself!

2) That stock photo is so, so perfect. I won’t reveal all of the reasons why, but a couple of things that strike me about it are the fact that the points on the sword’s hilt closely mirror traditional Egrian armor as I imagine it and then there’s the fact that the colors in this cover will look gorgeous alongside the Riot of Storm and Smoke cover.

…which you will get to see one of these days. I swear.

I’m so excited to be able to release this story for fans of the Threats of Sky and Sea universe and think this story will particularly please the Caden (and the Aleta) fans among you!

For now, I’m off to keep plugging away at Riot of Storm and Smoke! You’ll be hearing from me soon!

-Jen

Stories in the Threats of Sky and Sea universe:
Threats of Sky and Sea (Book #1)
Sisters of Wind and Flame (prequel)
Defining Justice (prequel, coming May 4, 2015)
Riot of Storm and Smoke (Book 2, coming 2015)

Cover Reveal: One, Two, Three

I first met Elodie Nowodazkij through a Young Adult writing class on LitReactor. Since then, we’ve kept in touch via Twitter and let me tell you, she is such a sweetheart! It’s been such a privilege to have someone else going through the self-publishing process, and it’s been a further privilege to have that person be Elodie. Needless to say, I could not have been more thrilled when she made the decision to self-publish her debut novel One, Two, Three and I am so excited to be a part of her cover reveal today! When seventeen-year-old Natalya’s dreams of being a ballerina are killed in a car accident along with her father, she must choose: shut down—like her mother—or open up to love. Last year, Natalya was attending the School of Performing Arts in New York City. Last year, she was […]

It’s a big, big, big day!

It’s a big, big, big day!

I always assumed that my first book would be a traditionally published one. To that end, over the years, I spent a lot of time researching query letters, synopses, and pitch contests. And I wrote a book. I revised (and revised and revised) it. My amazing beta readers and critique partners told me that my novel about a teenage barmaid in a world filled with Elementals and royalty, was ready to meet the world. So, I began querying, jumped into pitch contests, and waited. And waited. And waited. While I waited, I closely followed the paths of Leigh Ann Kopans and Jamie Grey, who both self-published their debut novels last year. Game-changer. I saw that they were putting out quality novels. I heard about the speed of self-publishing, the control that’s available to them, the decisions that they get to […]

A look back and looking forward in 2014

A look back and looking forward in 2014

As 2014 opens, I’m realizing something: I’m not where I want to be with my life, and you know? That’s okay. Because all things considered, I had a pretty good year. I have my ups and my downs. Sometimes my downs are really low and it’s hard to remember the good in my life. But when I put it in a list like this, the good overwhelmingly outweighs the bad and I think focusing on the good things in my life will help when those times inevitably roll back around. I transitioned from a temp job to a permanent position, where (some days) I actually get to use my English degree. My  best friend lives several states away, but we still managed to see each other for four different trips. The bevy and I talk more than ever and it’s […]
