2016 is moving swiftly along and despite having been super sick twice already– once with a flu and currently with bronchitis– so many things are happening!

Liiiiike, the fact that the Riot of Storm and Smoke audiobook is available now!

Guys, I can’t even describe how much gushing I want to do over Grace Glass’s fantastic narration. Her enthusiasm for the project is so clear in her reading– and I followed along with her progress on her Facebook page (spoilers if you haven’t read Riot yet), so I knew how much she connected with the book. And honestly, if you have read Riot, you should pay her page a visit and give her a ‘like.’ I giggled a lot over her updates and I think you will, too.

She does such a beautiful job bringing Riot of Storm and Smoke to life. I mean, just listen to what a great job she does in the sample!

If you’re new to Audible, you can make Riot of Storm and Smoke your first listen for free. Or if you’re already an Audible user, you can find Riot of Storm and Smoke right here.

one dream onlyYou may remember that I narrated the audiobook for Sisters of Wind and Flame myself and I plan to do the audio for Breathe In as well when my voice no longer sounds like a dying frog.

That’s led to me branching out and exploring the wide world of audiobook narration, and I’m pleased to say that I have a couple of projects out in the world!

My first project was One Dream Only, Elodie Nowodazkij’s prequel story to her novel, One Two Three. I loved getting the backstory of Natalya– it made my heart just break for her. I’ll also be doing the narration for One Two Three (again, when I get over this stupid disease) and I’m excited to delve further into Nata’s story.

And this week saw the release of my second fiction project, Madly, Deeply by Erica Crouch. In Madly, Deeply, Erica’s created a beautiful romance and a tragic reimagining of Edgar Allen Poe’s classic poem “Annabel Lee.” Erica really has a flair for beautiful language and it shines in this book.

Now and Again release day

Posted October 26, 2015 by Jennifer Ellision in blog, Books, new adult / 0 Comments

Now and Again paperbackIn 2010, I signed up for NaNoWriMo in an attempt to write my first novel, Now and Again.

It… went.

Basically, I was frustrated with my inability to do the story in my head justice. The plot was (at least, in my mind) sound, but my words were inadequate. Now and Again was trunked until I stumbled across it in the back of my closet around a year ago.

I’d thought often of that first attempt to write a book, usually cringing as I remembered feeling frustrated in front of a computer screen. Regretting that I couldn’t give Em and Cole the ending that they deserved or their introduction to the world.

Maybe it was the distance from the manuscript that I’d been able to gain with time, but I liked the book. Sure, it needed a complete rewrite, and several rounds of edits, but…

I began writing. Again.

…So here we are five years after the first draft. And I’m really, really happy that I took the time to make this into a book that I want to share. That I’m excited to be able to share.

Because not only was it was my first book, but Em, in particular, is special to me. Her fears may be the ones I’ve related to the most so far of any of my characters. (Love ya, Bree, but I have no evil kings to be afraid of.) Now and Again is unlike any of my other published works, but I hope that you enjoy it.

And I’m so glad that Em and Cole finally got their ending.

Now and Again is available now!

A letter to Riot of Storm and Smoke on release day

Happy book birthday, Riot of Storm and Smoke!

Like your older sibling, Threats of Sky and Sea, I want to write you a letter on this, your release day. Like Threats, there were times I doubted we’d be able to get to this point. In writing you, there were often multiple steps back for every step forward.

But unlike with Threats, I always knew where you, Riot, would start and end. It was just all of the stuff in the middle that took me a while to figure out.

You were different and, like so many younger siblings, you struggled to define yourself. To stand apart from Threats of Sky and Sea. And boy, did you manage. To illustrate that point, I’ve pulled together a couple of small graphs for a few of these differences:Screen Shot 2015-08-14 at 4.51.18 PM

Happy book birthday to Elodie Nowodazkij’s ONE TWO THREE!

Happy book birthday to Elodie Nowodazkij’s ONE TWO THREE!

I am so very, very excited that today is the book birthday for my friend, Elodie Nowodazkij’s ONE TWO THREE! ONE TWO THREE is about a ballet dancer who’s lost both her father and her ability to dance, a romance, and how Nata (said dancer) learns to cope. I first met Elodie in a YA writing class on LitReactor, where she was workshopping an earlier draft of ONE TWO THREE and I was workshopping an early draft of THREATS OF SKY AND SEA. We became Twitter buddies and then self-publishing buddies, exchanging e-mails swapping ideas about where we were in the process. It was something of a weight off of my shoulders, having someone else going through this process with me. So from those e-mails, and from her blog, I know how seriously Elodie takes her craft and I am […]

Looking back on release week

Looking back on release week

Threats of Sky and Sea release week was kiiiind of the bomb. I was ecstatic to be releasing Threats of Sky and Sea in general and release day would have been great regardless. But a few things made it stand-out fantastic. Like all of the tweets and Facebook posts supporting me and linking to buy Threats of Sky and Sea. Like an awesome release day Twitter chat, with fun questions from great participants. Like the paperback breaking the top 5K of books on Amazon. Like ranking in THREE categories on Amazon. Like breaking the top 7K of all Kindle books. We also threw a book launch celebration! There was cake, I signed a few books, and we set up a table with swag to grab. There were friends, family, food and drink. MOST excellent. Basically, I couldn’t have asked for much more […]

A love letter to Threats of Sky and Sea on its release day

A love letter to Threats of Sky and Sea on its release day

Dear Threats of Sky and Sea, TOSAS (may I call you TOSAS?), you and I have been through a lot together. Way back from the time when I was consistently getting your name wrong and calling you “Apparent.” (What, oh what, was I thinking?) We’ve been together for years now, ever since that first scene jumped into my head way back in 2011. But I was only flirting with you then, TOSAS. It wouldn’t be until about a year later, in 2012, that I was finally ready to commit to you and only you. To take you seriously. We had our struggles. Sometimes, I just couldn’t understand you. You wanted to go everywhere– you wanted to go nowhere. You were overly dramatic or you fell totally flat. You made no sense! Sometimes, I wanted to break up with you. But […]
