Rip Van Winkle-ing

You guys. What year is it? What day?

Just kidding, I know all of that, but with the activity around the past couple of weeks, I’ve barely used the internet. I feel a little like Rip Van Winkle, waking up after twenty years.

That’s because last week, I visited my best friend in Virginia. She and her fiance (who is also an friend from college), both graduated with their master’s degrees and decided to celebrate that, as well as their engagement with a party. It worked out to be something of a college reunion, and was a great time all around. While I was there, we also went to Top Golf (please build one in South Florida, powers that be) and visited a winery, which was fun despite the fact that I don’t drink wine ^_~.

I was pretty sad to leave such good friends (and a respite from the heat!) behind, but as Christmas (which is what I celebrate) was approaching, I had to head back home, with a cold in tow, but nothing too crazy.

Izzy is doing much better, for which we’re all very grateful. My parents, the dogs, and I had a pretty quiet Christmas, but it was enjoyable nonetheless! Last year, our house was packed with 2 dogs, my parents, brother and I, my grandparents, aunt, uncle, and 3 cousins sleeping under the same roof. This year, my brother lives out in Colorado and the rest of the family couldn’t make the trip from North Carolina.

So the parents and I went to church on Christmas Eve, and then had dinner at a family friend’s. We had a relaxing Christmas morning. We opened gifts. (Some of my favorites are in the collage below). We Facetimed my brother. We went to Buca di Beppo and ate our weight in Italian deliciousness, and then came home and watched a movie. A different Christmas from what we’re used to, but a good one.

And now, today, I’m getting back into the swing of things. I’ll be taking over the YA Book Lovers Winter Party at 4 PM EST. The event itself starts at 1:30, and there will be a ton of great giveaways and authors participating.

Other than that, I’m working on fulfilling my Patreon patron perks, and working on finishing production on an audiobook–my cold’s been fought back enough to get back to work on it, but not quite enough to put in the long hours I’d like to.

And, of course, I’m excited for Breathe In‘s release tomorrow! If you’ve pre-ordered, it will be on your Kindle shortly! And if not, feel free to jump on it! I’ll see you guys back here for a release day blog tomorrow. Consider Rip Van Winkle awake– alive and kicking. ^_~

Hey guys!

I am so, so, SOOO excited to let you guys know about a really cool development with Threats of Sky and Sea today.

A few months ago, the folks over at Booktrack reached out to work with me and create a Booktrack for Threats. I looked into Booktrack and was really WOW-ed by what I learned.

A Booktrack is a movie-style soundtrack to coincide with text, complete with ambient sounds and dramatic scoring.

It’s a super immersive reading experience that puts a reader more fully into the text by utilizing another sense for the experience. I’ve been lucky enough to preview what they’ve put together for Threats of Sky and Sea and it’s incredible.

For a limited time, you can get the Threats of Sky and Sea Booktrack for just $1.99.

For anyone worried– that includes both the Threats text and the accompanying Booktrack. Hurry, because while the Threats Booktrack will continue to be available, it won’t remain at that price!

I hope you guys decide to check it out because– seriously, it’s just amazing. I am in awe of what their team put together.

You can read more about me gushing over the brilliance of Booktrack– as well as sharing my Threats of Sky and Sea playlist– over on their blog today!

And be sure to check out Booktrack’s app | website | Twitter to learn more!

Now and Again release day

Posted October 26, 2015 by Jennifer Ellision in blog, Books, new adult / 0 Comments

Now and Again paperbackIn 2010, I signed up for NaNoWriMo in an attempt to write my first novel, Now and Again.

It… went.

Basically, I was frustrated with my inability to do the story in my head justice. The plot was (at least, in my mind) sound, but my words were inadequate. Now and Again was trunked until I stumbled across it in the back of my closet around a year ago.

I’d thought often of that first attempt to write a book, usually cringing as I remembered feeling frustrated in front of a computer screen. Regretting that I couldn’t give Em and Cole the ending that they deserved or their introduction to the world.

Maybe it was the distance from the manuscript that I’d been able to gain with time, but I liked the book. Sure, it needed a complete rewrite, and several rounds of edits, but…

I began writing. Again.

…So here we are five years after the first draft. And I’m really, really happy that I took the time to make this into a book that I want to share. That I’m excited to be able to share.

Because not only was it was my first book, but Em, in particular, is special to me. Her fears may be the ones I’ve related to the most so far of any of my characters. (Love ya, Bree, but I have no evil kings to be afraid of.) Now and Again is unlike any of my other published works, but I hope that you enjoy it.

And I’m so glad that Em and Cole finally got their ending.

Now and Again is available now!
