For a birthday gift, I wanted to give myself two finished drafts.
So… How did I do?
2 drafts. HA! That didn’t exactly happen. But, I’m very pleased with my progress. I think that’s the important thing with setting crazy goals: even if you don’t completely achieve them, you will probably make significant progress.
Here is the thing: the Riot of Storm and Smoke draft isn’t complete. But for my purposes… it is. I’ve figured out the plot. The scenes that need to be added in and the ones that need to be subtracted.
This means that I get to dive into my favorite part of the process: revisions. I get to take things out, bulk scenes up, add in forshadowing. First revisions are where I finally let myself go and tinker with the prose of my story. When those things are added, I’ll patch up unfinished scenes. And then, it will be off to my critique partners and beta readers.
I’m excited. In fact, I’m super antsy about the fact that I’m on my lunch break at work right now, because it means I can’t print out my (very messy) draft and get to revising. I like to do a lot of my revising the old-fashioned way. I can hardly wait.
In the meantime, I’m still busy with interviews about Threats of Sky and Sea (and getting ready for a sale– keep an eye out tomorrow!), and after getting started with Nathalia, I am even more excited about the work she’s doing on Riot of Storm and Smoke’s cover. It’s going to be EPIC.
I’m also working on something else related to Threats of Sky and Sea that I’m SUPER excited about, but right now, mum’s the word.

I will reveal all… soon. Soon-ish. Right now, the focus is on the next book in Bree’s story.
