5 Year Anniversary of Threats of Sky and Sea
My 5 year publishing anniversary.
Wow.
5 years ago today, was the official release day of Threats of Sky and Sea. I published this post that day.
5 years ago today, I became an author.
So… today is my 5-year anniversary publishing!
There are a lot of ups and downs in this business. Some books sell. Some don’t. Sometimes, writing is easy. Others, it’s a struggle. Sometimes, the reviews are good and sometimes, they’re not. Some days, I think about giving up and other days I couldn’t imagine it.
The dream keeps becoming something new: figure out advertising. Get fan art. Get sales up. Become a bestseller.
But I’m an author. That’s the first dream and the most important part.
I thought a lot about how I wanted to celebrate my 5 year anniversary in publishing. Putting the books on sale didn’t feel special enough since I do that routinely.
So I turned to my Facebook group to ask how to celebrate this special anniversary. They voted for some commissioned artwork.
Naturally, I picked Jo Painter to do the art. I have followed artist Jo Painter on Instagram since seeing the beautiful work that she did creating the cover for City of Veils by S. Usher Evans, so she was a natural choice for me to reach out to. And when it came to what the artwork would contain, that choice was easy too.
You see, Threats of Sky and Sea would not exist if it wasn’t for a scene that jumped into my head about ten years ago with two characters. Bree and Aleta.
The first dream was always just to be an author. To have readers who know the characters in my head.
I have these ladies to thank for the first part. And you all for the second.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Love always,
Jen
