February Wrap-up

Another month has come and gone! Here’s what I did! File under: ‘Threats of Sky and Sea progress:’ Opened sign-ups for my street team Announced that Threats of Sky and Sea will be published May 20, 2014! Sent the first ARC of Threats of Sky and Sea out into the great wide world for review in Inaccurate Realities, a speculative fiction YA literary magazine. Mailed the word document containing Threats of Sky and Sea to my copy editor. Tentatively scheduled my cover reveal Released the first TOSAS Teaser Wrote 10% of the first draft of Book 2! “Are there any new stories?”

Once, when I was in college, I went to my university’s writing center for extra credit on a paper. As I left, on a whim, I grabbed a few of the postcard-sized promotions that they had out for grabs to decorate my dorm room wall. I’ll never forget the question one of them posed: ARE THERE ANY NEW STORIES? What a stupid question, I remember thinking incredulously. Of course there are new stories. Countless books come out every week! There are short stories and fanfics and even multi-part works uploaded online (probably) every minute. How could anyone doubt that there are new stories? My twenties self could use a dose of the self-assuredness of my collegiate self. I think this is a plague of doubt that a lot of writers suffer from. We’re on twitter. We’re stalking agent blogs. Jen on Jen action… by which I mean I talk about myself.

So. Some things about me/this space/why it’s here. 1) I already have a blog, but starting one that isn’t almost entirely devoted to Young Adult book reviews like Almost Grown-up is seemed like a fun idea. I’m following the example of fellow writer/book blogger Lindsey of Lindsey with an E and Storm of Words. 2) I have no idea how often I’m going to post on here or what I’m going to post about, really. 3) My life is consumed by books. In EVERY form. I’m working on my own novel now, having written two terrible ones before for NaNoWriMo. I’m part of a book club.
